What is more fun then playing in makeup and lipstick? Doing so in front of a camera. I have been gone from my beloved YouTube channel for months and to celebrate my return I decided to do a showcase of my go to bold lip colors that I rely on heavily when I’m feeling risky.
There is something about bold lipstick that makes me feel like dancing and celebrating and just giddy all around. I usually rock brighter colors in the spring and summer months but I have found myself wearing all six of these colors throughout the year.
In 2014, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Creative Director François Nars’ original line of 12 lipsticks, the masterminds at NARS Cosmetics released a line of 40 creamy highly pigmented lipstick colors in the Audacious line. While I was tempted to max out a credit card purchasing all 40 of these gorgeous shades, I chose a creamy orange color. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jane ($32) is bright enough to stand out without being neon making it easy to wear on a daily basis. You can find NARS Audacious lipstick at Sephora, Nordstrom, Barneys New York, and NARSCosmetics.com
I still remember the first time I watched a YouTube video featuring the Lip Tars by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) a cruelty-free 100% vegan cosmetic who’s signature product is a very lightweight liquid lipstick in a huge variety of shades and finishes. It took forever for an OCC Lip Tar ($18) lipstick to make its way into my makeup collection because it was not available in retail stores for years after its initial release, however, that all changed when Sephora started carrying this line. Hoochie, an extreme magenta, packs a powerful pink punch that can not only be worn alone, but mixes easily with other shades to create vibrant purples and mauves. You can find Hoochie and the entire line of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars, lip liners and more at Sephora and OCCMakeup.com.
I must admit that my relationship with the NYX Soft Matte Cream formula was not an instant love affair similar to that of their much adored round lipstick. There were times where I purchased colors only to return or give them away but all of that changed with my latest visit to Ulta. The NYX Soft Matte Cream ($6) is a rich matte plum color that is so lightweight you barely remember that you are wearing lipstick after it dries. This color is very buildable as one coat will give you more of a stain and two or more coats render a more opaque finish. NYX Soft Matte Cream colors can be found at Ulta, Target, and NYXCosmetics.com.
The Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Violet ($21) is one of those lipsticks that should only be work by a super confident IT girl who has no issue with drawing attention. This lip color is so bright and loud that it should have come with its own pair of shades and earplugs. I love this formula because while it dries to a semi-glossy finish, it is long lasting with a “barely there” after effect. You can find Melted Violet and the rest of the Too Faced Melted Lipstick line at Sephora, Ulta, and TooFaced.com
I think I took my biggest makeup risk this year yet when I purchased Cyber by MAC ($16). I’d heard so much about it already from other bloggers and youtubers and almost passed it up when I swatched it in the MAC store. Voted a MAC must have by makeup artist and industry experts alike, this gothic blackish-purple lipstick is only for the bravest makeup addicts. Its semi-glossy formula goes on smoothly and is paired best with a neutral eyeshadow look. You can find Cyber at MAC stores and counters and MACCosmetics.com.
I am a sucker for bright pure red lipsticks yet the perfect shade is sometimes very hard to find. When I want to for a vintage pin-up-esq makeup look my go to lip color is none other then the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery ($22). This deep red long lasting ultra matte lip shade does not budge once it dries remaining vibrant and in place through eating and drinking. The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick can be found at Sephora, Ulta, and StilaCosmetics.com.
