Dear Fashion Diary: Yes I Can!

I have a confession to make…

My name is Maisha, and I used to be afraid of leggings.  Woo-Saa…I feel so much better now that I’ve gotten that off of my chest.  Now many of you IT Girls out there have been rocking leggings fearlessly for years so please excuse me if this is old news for you.  For the longest time I just dreaded the look of this clingy garment.  The funny thing is, I would see so many young ladies with leggings on looking effortlessly cute and casual, yet I could not bring myself  to walk into a store and try a pair on.

Well I am happy to say that not only did I work up the courage to finally conquer my legging-phobia, I purchased a pair and made a darling outfit with them.  I did it…I love them…YES I CAN!

.

The linen white shirt and gray cross-body purse were both purchased from ZARA and the leggings were purchased from Shasa.  I decided to add an accent belt to give more shape to my shirt and that was purchased from Aldo Accessories.

.

Because of the simplicity of this getup, I wanted to be a little excessive with my adornments.  These bracelets were purchased from Aldo Accessories…

.

…and these were purchased at Anthropologie.

.

You can definitely dress this outfit up with a tall wedge heel, but I opted for these flat black sandals from Aldo.

I hope you all enjoyed this entry into my fashion diary.  Leave a comment below and lets discuss.

The Art of Being a Lady…Let’s Begin the Conversation

If you don’t know by now, ThatITGirl.com is focused on helping women become their most beautiful, fabulous and feminine selves.  These are things that, if you let me, I could talk about all day, everyday.

Now my monologues about beauty, fashion, makeup and such are usually received with looks of familiarity from my peers,  but when I brush the subject of the importance of being a feminine woman, I am met with curious and sometimes dumfounded glances.

I always wonder…Do I get these reactions because this is such a taboo subject, or because this is something that many women do not even know how to open up  and talk about.

It is my personal opinion that despite the surplus wayward messages that we absorb daily from television, and other forms of multi-media,  the art of being a truly feminine woman is not lost.

To begin this conversation, I would like to define what womanhood is to me.  While looking polished,  learning to care for your household, and managing to never have a bad hair day makes for a complete outer package, these are all only superficial and should not be mistaken for true womanhood.   I characterize the word “womanly” as someone that is peaceful with how God made her, a woman who embodies love for others, is graceful, educated, and has great personal ethic and strength all rolled into one fabulous ball of style.

I am a fan of charm school, and while I never formally attended one, I was taught what I feel is the true definition of womanhood from my mother herself.  This conversation began very early in my life.  I know that we were not all blessed to with someone to show us the ropes as a young child, and that is why I believe it is essential that we need to initiate the dialog with our own daughters and between each other.

Let me know what you believe to be true womanhood by leaving a comment below.

Dear Fashion Diary: I Love My Birthday Suit

March is my birth month and I decided to kick it off in style.  It’s funny because just when I start slacking off of my New Year’s resolutions, my birthday rolls around and I use it as an excuse to renew my personal goals.

I promised myself that this year will be the year of new experiences.  Thanks to my sweetie, I tried horseback riding for the first time in my life and this was scary, exhilirating, and amazing all in one.  Horses are such powerful creatures, and even though I was sore for 3 days after riding one, I cannot wait until my next encounter.  I may even sign up for lessons.

Me and my new friend Jazzy, a majestic Arabian, had an instant connection.

I received an absolutely gorgeous flower arrangement from my beloved family and tons of well wishes from my great friends.

I was treated to a lovely dinner with my sweetie and some close friends so I of course took that opportunity to go shopping (in my closet).  I was inspired by my birthday floral arrangement and decided to incorporate that into my outfit.

This is the season of floral prints, pleated trousers, and chunky boots.  I normally do not match my makeup with my outfit, but I recently purchased some Milani eyeshadow that I wanted to try (review and tutorial to come).

Headband | American Apparel

I decided that a cute understated necklace would coordinate best since the top is so bold.  The crystal and pearl bracelet brought a charming and classic aspect to this outfit.  You can never go wrong with pearls.

Blouse | Forever 21

Necklace, Bracelet, Belt | Aldo

This year I am claiming nothing but greatness and continued blessings for me and all of my loved ones that surround me.  I will be posting more entries from my fashion diary so tell me what you think.
