For hundreds of years African women have been adorning their heads with colorful fabric crowns that are used to identify tribes and social status, express spirituality, and frame the face. Known as a Gele in Yoruba culture, these scarves have remained a timeless sign of beauty and regality.
I am of Nigerian decent and am already familiar with the bold colors and uniqueness of a finely hand-crafted headscarf so I am extra excited to see this make an appearance in mainstream fashion.
