I was doing my daily random internet searching when somehow I stumbled upon a interesting article about Misty Copeland, the third African American female soloist ever to perform for the American Ballet Theatre. I was instantly intrigued by Misty’s story because she seems to have it all. She is strikingly beautiful with a God given talent paralleled by few.
Misty Copeland, a Kansas City, Missouri native, dove head first into the world of ballet at the ripe young age of 13. At a time where professional African American ballet dancers were few and far in-between, 15 year old Misty was gracing stages with the likes of Debbie Allen, and earning full scholarships to the San Francisco and American Ballet Theatre’s summer intensive programs.

Misty’s performances with the American Ballet Theatre include her role as Princess Florina in Sleeping Beauty, and as the lead harlot in Romeo & Juliet.
I find Misty’s story very inspirational because not only does she embody great poise, grace, but even with her hectic schedule, she still finds time to give back to young ballet dancers who strive to be just like her.
