My nail polish collection has a history of being a little challenged but that is changing very rapidly. Because I am a nurse and wash my hands many times throughout the day, for many years I would think nothing of allowing my hands to go bare in an effort to save money on nail polish that inevitably chipped and peeled 2 days after application. Over the last year, my desire to keep an immaculate manicure despite the hurdles I face at work has been renewed especially now that I’ve discovered Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquer.
Created by licensed cosmetologist and manicurist Kitiya Mischo King, Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquer is an entire line of vibrantly colored chip resistant nail polish colors free of harmful toxins commonly used in nail products. While pregnant, Kitiya had an impossible time finding nail polish colors that didn’t include ingredients that could be dangerous to her and her unborn son. After turning up empty handed in her search for an eco-friendly nail polish, Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquer was born. Featured in Marie Claire, W Magazine, and most recently, InStyle Magazine, Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquers ($18 for 0.5oz/15ml) are 5 free meaning free of formaldehyde, DBP, toluene, formaldehyde resin, and camphor.
Debuting in 2014, The Icons Collection gives us shockingly bright colors named after iconic women in history. Each polish is housed in a beautifully designed thick square glass bottle with a black cap and a brush small enough for precise application. The formula is not thick or bulky and spreads easily giving an opaque finish in 2 thin coats. I found these polishes to be fast drying even without my holy grail Seche Vite Dry Fast Topcoat. Each nail polish can also be purchased in a Nail Lacquer Set ($54) including your favorite Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquer, base coat, and top coat.
Diana is a vividly luxurious red-orange color that gives my manicure a very glossy high-end finish. I instantly wanted to grab brunch complete with mimosas and girl talk after I applied this polish. I find this shade different and less “blood like” then many blue-based red polishes that I already own.
Jackie is a cool mint color that, if applied right, only requires one coat. I did find this color to be the thickest of all four and had to work a little harder to get even coverage as I do with many milky pastel colors.
Marilyn is a hot pink color and is by far my favorite out of the entire collection. I really put this color through the ringer by wearing it for an entire 5-day work week with frequent vigorous hand washing and did not experience chipping until the end of that 5th day.
Billie is a unique neon orange color, very similar to Diana, that I know I will get plenty of use out of. This shade brought out the warm undertones of my skin tone almost like it was specially mixed with me in mind.
Not pictured is Coco, a pure white color that unfortunately has been sold out for weeks. That just makes me want to get my hands on it even more and will be patiently waiting for it to be restocked.
It took me a little while to complete this review because I really wanted to put these nail polish colors through adequate testing to provide That IT Girl readers with an honest overview. I can confidently tell you that my relationship with Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquer was an instant love affair. Each of these nail polish colors delivered bold chip resistant color that received compliments from my manicurist and friends alike. I love the fact that Kitiya took such care to develop a toxin free eco-friendly nail polish without compromising wearability, quality, and color payoff.
