During a recent walk to one of my favorite shopping areas here in the Houston area called Highland Village, I found my way into the Kiehl’s store with a grande latte in one hand and my curiosity in the other. Kiehl’s is one of those brands that I am still discovering and falling in love with as I continue on my quest to achieve my best skin possible.
Kiehl’s clinical approach to skin care is one that has been around for since 1851 with its beginnings being deeply rooted in the use of naturally derived ingredients. I have acne prone skin with post inflammation hyperpigmentation and it has been my goal to nourish my skin to health through using gentle yet effective products to target my problem areas. Despite my combination skin being more on the oily side, I also have issues with flakiness and through lots of trial and error, I find that it actually behaves better taking on a more balanced tone when I add oil to my skin care regimen.
The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate ($46-$122) came highly recommended during my chat with a friendly Kiehl’s advisor. Described as a nighttime facial oil, the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate assists with restoring the appearance of skin by morning.
This lightweight, readily absorbed elixer effectively restores skin’s healthy appearance overnight resulting in smoother, more radiant complexion by morning. These natural oils instantly penetrate the skin surface to help replenish it. Our recovery concentrate works at night when skin is most receptive to repairing itself from daily aggressors. With skin hydrated supple and soft, rest assured you can say goodnight to tired-looking skin.
- Squalane- Botanical lipid similar in molecular structure to your natural skin oil. It is easily absorbed and great for restoring the skin’s natural moisture balance.
- Evening Primrose Oil- Rich in Omega-6, Evening Primrose Oil is an effective on skin barrier and radiance booster.
- Lavender Oil- Helps soothe inflamed and irritated skin while helping reduce skin blotchiness for a more even look.
While my daytime skin routine is fairly simple, I really like to pamper myself and take the day off before bed. My nightly skin care routine has quite a few steps depending on the day of the week so adding the extra task of applying a nighttime facial oil isn’t really an inconvenience for me. My Kiehl’s customer service rep stated that the Midnight Recovery Concentrate should be applied over your serum and under your moisturizer which after experimenting with using it at different stages of my PM regimen, I concur that gently patting this product into skin before moisturizing to be best.
This face oil is fairly colorless and has a slight but pleasant botanical smell that fades minutes after application. It does has a watery consistency but the push-button dropper makes dispensing the product very easy. While the bottle says that only 2-3 drops are needed per night, I do find that I have to use a many as 5 drops to get adequate coverage on my face, neck, and décolletage.
I loved how soft my skin felt when I sampled the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate in the store and after just 1 week of nightly use I noticed that my skin was more bouncy and does not get that stripped feeling after my morning wash routine. I’ve also noticed that my skin retains moisture better throughout the day instead of getting oily and flaky. This product has not helped much with my hyperpigmentation nor does it claim to but my skin is increasingly bright, glowy, and toned. I couldn’t help but quickly usher the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate into “holy grail” status giving it a permanent spot in my nightly pamper routine and I look forward to exploring the Kiehl’s brand more in the future.
